The hike starts above U.C.
Santa Cruz. We cross a long, open meadow near Empire Grade Crossing. The
meeting site has a nice ocean view (from 800 feet) and your choice of sun
or shade (the last two pictures are the meeting site). This will be our first
hike here.
This hike starts in the Redwood forest above UC Santa Cruz,
crosses long, open meadow near Empire Grade Crossing to Grey Whale
Ranch and Wilder Ranch. This hike promises to be an absolute treat as our
host has selected an amazing meeting location in the center of a beautiful
Eucalyptus groove located 600 feet above sea level, complete with a view
of the Pacific Ocean.

This hike offers a variety of ecosystems and great diversity
of wildlife, among the possible sightings are bobcats, foxes, deer, quail,
hawks, and errant seagulls. Beware of the usual ticks and poison oak.
As we hike through the cool redwood groves into open meadows and light woodsy
areas one would be well advised to wear layered clothing. The hike is 6
miles, Level 2, with a 400' climb.
