The Place


Castle Rock State Park encompasses over 5,200 acres of wildlands in the Santa Cruz Mountains with 35 miles of hiking trails and a wide variety of plant and animal communities, very interesting rock formations and great views of the San Lorenzo Valley and Pacific Ocean . Some of the most notorious features in the park are Castle Rock, Castle Rock Falls and Goat Rock which are very popular among rock climbers.


Getting There

DIRECTIONS:  Located on Highway 35, just 2.5 miles southeast of the junction with Highway 9. From San Jose or Santa Cruz, take Hwy 9 to Hwy 35. Turn south onto Hwy 35. Drive about 2.5 miles and look for the park entrance on the right side of the road.

Drive time from San Jose:1 Hour.

Walking the Walk

We will meet in the main parking lot off Highway 35 and proceed on the Falls Overlook trail. We will continue on the Saratoga Gap trail which we will follow to the Castle Rock Trail Camp. If the If possible, we will conduct the meeting in the shelter located at the trail camp. If not, we will find a suitable nearby location. After the meeting, we will follow the Ridge trail home passing Goat Rock before making our way to the parking lot.

Level 3.5 Miles: 7.5 Elevation change: 1500'. Host: Angel L.

Know Before You Go

RECOMMENDED:  Parking along road free if available.  

No Smoking.

Parking $8.

Vaulted Restrooms and Phones at both the Parking Lot and the Campground.

Dogs Not Allowed.
