SPRING RETREAT / Cachuma Lake Recreation Center
April 28- May 1, 2016

Cachuma Lake is nestled amidst the oak-shaded hills of the Santa Ynez Valley in Santa Barbara. This 3200- acre lake is open to most types of boating, kayaking and fishing. The campground, which is one of the most modern and diverse parks in California, is located on a peninsula in the center of the lake. Our group site, known as El Dorado is well situated, close to bathrooms and showers with beautiful views of both sunrise and sunsets. The park and trails are dog friendly and there is an off-leash park within the campground itself. Lake Cachuma is the drinking water supply for the city of Santa Barbara so the lake is off limits to dogs and people for swimming. Saturdays hike will be in the Los Padres National Forest, which borders the recreation area. Los Padres contains a wide range of ecosystems, from seacoast and marine habitats to redwood forests, mixed conifer forests, oak woodlands, grasslands, pinyon juniper stands, chaparral and semi-desert areas. This forest is home to more than 468 fish and wildlife species. There are twenty-three threatened or endangered wildlife species, twenty regionally sensitive wildlife species and thirty-four forest-level sensitive wildlife species in Los Padres. Los Padres provides habitat for and is involved with the reintroduction of California condors, bald eagles, peregrine falcons, tule elk, bighorn sheep and many endangered plants (there are more than thirty species of sensitive plants in Los Padres).
