Portola Redwood State Park |

This hike through the Portola Redwood forests will start out easy, going half a mile
in to see “Old Tree”, a 300’ tall 12’ wide redwood. We come back and take Slate
Creek Trail through the stream basin and old growth redwoods out to Page Mill
Site where we will have our meeting. Slate Creek as well as Peters Creek flow along fault
lines where oil and marine fossils give a record of a complex geological past.
On the way back those looking for a longer, more challenging hike can take the Bear Creek
Trail up to the Peters Creek Loop, making it a 12.3 mile hike down to the older Redwoods
and up to 1400’.

Directions: From San Jose: Take 1-280 N. to Page Mill Rd exit West, and continue on
Page Mill Rd. Cross Skyline Blvd onto Alpine Rd. Go left at Portola State Park Rd.
An alternative to this route is to take 9 to 35. You can park in the small lots across the
Peters Creek Bridge and to the right along the road towards the Ramada Group Day Use Area
where we will meet to start.
